Simulation of Textile Stains
 
Abstract: 
Modeling virtual textiles is an important topic in computer graphics. Most studies focus on fabric's distinctive appearance or physically based simulation. Staining, one of the most common phenomena, and one that lends realism to cloth, has received little attention to date. This talk introduces techniques for simulating stains on woven fabric. Based on the microstructure of yarns, we propose a dual-layer model to handle the liquid-yarn interaction for the wetting and wicking computation. We then formalize the liquid spreading in woven cloth into two typical actions, the in-yarn diffusion and the cross-yarn diffusion. The dye diffusion is driven by the liquid diffusion and the concentration distribution of pigments. And different iteration frequencies are adopted to generate the warp-weft anisotropy. Our experimental results show that a wide range of fabric stain phenomena, such as the water ring effect, the high saturate stain contour, and the dynamic wash away effect, can be simulated effectively on different textile materials and compare favorably to real-world examples.

About the Speaker. 
陈彦云研究员2000年毕业于中科院软件所,获得博士学位,研究方向为计算机图形学中的复杂场景真实感渲染,博士期间的工作参加过3次Chinagraph年会(1998、2000、2002),3次获得优秀论文奖。毕业后加入微软亚洲研究院(2002-2007),继续进行图形学中关于复杂表面材质和光照的建模和绘制研究,先后在ACM SIGGRAPH (ToG)、IEEE Transactions on Visualization and Computer Graphics (TVCG) 及其它国内外学术会议和期刊发表论文多篇。拥有9项已授权美国专利。2007年离开微软亚洲研究院加入欧特克上海研究院,进行图形学相关的工程研发,先后开发过FBX、Maya等,并在欧特克下一代渲染器研发中的担任中国团队开发经理。2010年回到中科院软件所计算机科学国家重点实验室,任研究员,博士生导师,同时,于2011-2014年受邀成为深圳市中视典数字科技有限公司首席科学家,组建增强现实团队,参与和指导设计新一代虚拟现实平台OpenVRP以及家装、旅游和工业仿真平台的组建和开发。
