Abstract:
The use of WiFi to position indoor mobile devices has drawn increasing attention in the past decade. In this talk, we will discuss two aspects of WiFi positioning: accuracy and security. Our discussion will start with the basics of positioning technology. Then we will review some well-known factors that will influence positioning accuracy together with the observations we made when building a system. In addition to those well-known factors, we found spoofing attack could be another source of serious positioning errors. We will give an analysis on the spoofing attack and present a signal verification method to deal with the attacks.
